New Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Steven G. Potaczek, Joins Hopedale Medical Complex Staff
HOPEDALE, IL—(April 17, 2008) Steven G. Potaczek, M.D., has joined Hopedale Medical Complex’s medical staff and assumed practice at Hopedale’s Medical Arts Physicians’ office at 107 Tremont in Hopedale. Dr. Potaczek specializes in orthopedics and orthopedic surgery, which includes minimally invasive knee replacement surgery; shoulder and hip replacements; arthritis treatment; fractures; dislocations; treatments for osteoporosis; along with sports injuries and treatments. He is now seeing patients at the Medical Arts office on Thursdays beginning at 9am.
Dr. Potaczek is one of only a handful of surgeons in Illinois who performs the minimally invasive knee replacement surgery (MIS), which accomplishes everything that a traditional knee replacement does, but through a smaller incision (4- to 6-inch incision compared with an 8- to 10-inch incision). A smaller incision means less blood loss, less pain and less damage to the tissue around the knee. The potential benefits are a shorter hospital stay, shorter recovery, and a less noticeable scar. This procedure also spares cutting into the quadracep tendon, which results in some patients walking within 24- to 48-hours following surgery. Patients go home supported by a pain control pump. The pump infuses controlled amounts of local anesthetics for post-operative pain management directly into the surgical wound site. This shortens the amount of time needed for narcotics, if needed at all. Dr. Potaczek will be on hand with any questions regarding his MIS procedure at Hopedale Medical Complex’s annual Health & Wellness Fair slated for Saturday, May 3 rd from 11:30am – 3:30pm.
A graduate of Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana, Dr. Potaczek then pursued and received his medical degree in 1982 from the University of Health Sciences, Chicago Medical School, Chicago, IL. He then completed his orthopedic residency at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Potaczek is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners. Memberships include the American Board of Sports Medicine and the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners. Dr. Potaczek also sees patients in Galesburg, Kewanee and Monmouth.
Dr. Potaczek is also available for presentations. To schedule a time, call Melodie Mendenhall, Director of Marketing at 309-449-4012.
