What is a CT Heart Scan?

The Heart Scan, formally called Coronary Artery Calcium Scoring, is a quick and painless way to detect build-up in your coronary arteries.

Multiple images of your coronary arteries are captured by a high-speed CT scanner. Physicians are able to compute a cardiac "score" by seeing the amount of calcification in the walls of your arteries.

You do not need a doctor referral to schedule a Heart Scan.

What is Heart Disease?

One person dies in the U.S. every 34 seconds from a heart attack.

Atherosclerotic Heart Disease (AHD) is a chronic disease where coronary arteries are hardened and narrowed. Heart disease often leads to heart attack and sudden cardiac attack.

How Does the CT Heart Scan Work?

CT MachineThe procedure is considered to be an easy and painless one.

Using Hopedale Medical Complex's state-of-the-art CT scanner, a technologist will place EKG leads on your upper chest to track your heart rate. Then, you will be asked to hold your breath while the images are taken, taking only approximately ten seconds.

Injections and needles are not needed.

Once the exam is complete, a qualified physician will interpret your results and calculate your cardiac score.
