Cardiac Rehabilitation Programs

We have developed medically supervised exercise programs to help heart patients recover more quickly and improve their overall physical and mental functioning. The goal of each program is to reduce the risk of another cardiac event, or keep an already present condition from worsening.

Cardiac rehabilitation helps develop healthier lifestyles through exercise, education and nutrition counseling. You will gain insight to better understanding your condition, while increasing your strength and stamina.

Our cardiac rehabilitation programs help patients modify high-risk conditions and behaviors.

Some are:

  • High blood pressure
  • Smoking
  • High blood cholesterol
  • Physical inactivity
  • Obesity
  • Diabetes

What Programs Are Included In Cardiac Rehab?

Hopedale Wellness Center offers three programs for cardiac rehabilitation patients. Every patient must first complete Phase One offered in a hospital setting for people recovering from a recent cardiac event.

Our programs include:

  • Phase Two Cardiac Rehab. It is designed for patients who have recently had a heart attack or heart intervention.  This is a program where patients wear heart monitors while exercising and attend classes to learn about living with heart disease.   Our knowledgeable staff will monitor your heart rate, rhythm, pulse, and blood pressure with our modern diagnostic equipment. Individuals in this program exercise three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) for approximately 12 weeks with an individualized exercise regime. Also, patients attend education classes two days each week prior to exercise.  For Phase Two Cardiac Rehab, monitoring is done by a Registered Nurse (RN) certified in advanced cardiac life support.  Modern diagnostic equipment is also used.
  • Phase Three Cardiac Rehab. After completing Phase Two, patients are closely monitored during exercise with supervision from the Wellness Center staff. Every exercise program is customized for the patient. This program is also available for patients whose insurance may not cover Phase Two Cardiac Rehab. For Phase Three, exercise is supervised by specialists and nurses trained in advanced cardiac life support.
  • Medically Supervised Exercise. This program is for those who need supervision during exercise due to a medical condition. It is ongoing. Participants may remain in the program for months or years depending upon their medical condition. Our caring staff will help you exercise safely, and will help you create an exercise routine best suited to your medical needs. While exercising, you are monitored by knowledgeable staff who can answer your questions and listen to your health concerns.  For Medically Supervised Exercise, exercise is supervised by specialists and nurses trained in advanced cardiac life support.

Insurance

Phase Two Cardiac Rehab is covered by Medicare and most insurance plans when referred by your doctor. Medicare covers cardiac rehab for patients who have just had a heart attack or heart bypass surgery, recent PTCA, stent, valve replacement surgery or have stable angina. Other diagnoses may be covered depending upon the insurance carrier.

Phase Three Cardiac Rehab and Medically Supervised Exercise are not covered by insurance.
