About Hopedale Sports Medicine
Championship care yields championship results! The staff of Hopedale's PROeX Sports Medicine specialize in helping athletes maximize their on-field performance and overall health.
Beginning with prevention of an injury, the PROeX team instructs athletes. Teaching you to train properly by increasing stamina, strength, and flexibility is our goal at PROeX Sports Medicine.

PROeX Sports Medicine Programs
You don't have to be a professional athlete to take advantage of our care! We train athletes from grade school to professional.
PROeX Sports Medicine, a division of Hopedale Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine, provides services to athletes, coaches, parents and schools.

Sports Medicine Clinic offers:
- Free injury evaluation.
- An athlete's rehabilitation. The cost is only $10 for up to 3 visits. If the athlete requires long-term rehabilitation, a physican's referral must need to be obtained.
- Patients will be seen within 24 hours of phone call.
- Orthopedic braces and sleeves ordered and sold at a discount.
No Off Season Sports Performance Programs
Development Program for athletes 8-11 years of age
- Offer an opportunity to learn about body awareness.
- Build strength through body weight resistance.
- Develop good cognitive input habits.
- Instruct about injury prevention.
- Program is four week sessions, three days a week from June to July.
Performance Development for athletes 12-14 years of age
- Get physically ready for high school athletics.
- Program is eight weeks. Offered Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. June and July.
Performance Plus for athletes 14+ years of age
- High performance, intense training for the serious athlete.
- Program is 10 weeks on Monday-Friday from June-August.
Personal Performance Training
- Become a member of the PROeX "Tough Team".
- Program consists of six 30-minute personal training sessions.
- Receive access to our members only performance training e-newsletter.
- Custom design your training days at a special price per session.
- Great for college athletes who need help with their off-season programs.
- Available twelve months of the year.

No Off Season
Each athlete in this program receives a customized regimen focusing on specific goals. Instruction on nutrition, flexibility, agility, strength, power, balance and stability is presented in an easy to understand manner. This makes it much easier for the athlete to implement on their own.
The program is offered in the summer. However, individual appointments may be made with a Sports Medicine Athletic Trainer anytime of the year. Call 309-449-4501 for more information.
Student Athlete of the Month
Every month during the school year, our Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Department staff awards the Student-Athlete of the Month. The athlete is selected from nominations provided by coaches at Dee Mack, Olympia, Tremont, Hartem, and Delavan High Schools. Nominees must be juniors or seniors and must have maintained a 3.5 GPA. Nomination forms can be requested from by calling 309-449-4501.
At the end of the school year, a Student-Athlete of the Year is selected from the monthly winners. The recipient is awarded a $500 scholarship to the college of his or her choice.

Meet Our Sports Medicine Staff

Emily Whitson, MS, ATC Director of Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine PROeX Sports Medicine
Emily Whitson joined HMC in September 2005. She provides outreach athletic training services to local high schools and oversees rehabilitation at the Hopedale Wellness Center.
Emily received her undergraduate degree in Sports Management from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, MO and completed her Master’s Degree in Athletic Training at Indiana State University. Before coming to HMC, Emily worked at Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, TN as an athletic trainer.

Greg Eberle ATC, USAW Assistant Director of Sports Medicine PROeX Sports Medicine
Greg Eberle is from Peoria, Illinois, where he began his career with the Peoria Chiefs. In 1992, he graduated from Illinois State University. Upon graduation, Greg took the position in the St. Louis Blues Organization as head athletic trainer for the Peoria Rivermen. In 2005, Greg assumed the position as the assistant strength and conditioning coach for the St. Louis Blues where his responsibilities were overseeing the Peoria Rivermen. At the same time, he also owned EBS Sports Performance Center, in Peoria where he worked with athletes of multiple ages and sports.

Darvis King, DPT, MS, ATC PROeX Sports Medicine
Darvis King is from Lancaster, PA and began working at HMC in January 2005. Darvis received his BA in Biology and Athletic Training from Goshen College in Indiana. He completed his Masters of Science in Athletic Training from Illinois State University in 1999 and received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2002 from Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania. His research interests are in stroke and rehabilitation outcomes.
He is an experienced Physical Therapist and Athletic Trainer who covers Bloomington-Normal athletic events. Darvis is available to serve athletes by appointment.

Stephanie Rion, ATC PROeX Sports Medicine
Stephanie received her undergraduate degree in Athletic Training from Manchester College in North Manchester, IN. She will receive her MBA in Healthcare Management through the Indiana Institute of Technology in the fall of 2011. Prior to employment with HMC, Stephanie worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for Orthopaedics NorthEast in Fort Wayne, IN.

Amy Jones, ATC PROeX Sports Medicine
Amy Jones joined PROeX in September 2009. She graduated with a Master of Science Degree in Athletic Training from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania. She also received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Athletic Training from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania. Amy provides outreach athletic training services to local high schools.

Dr. Chris Miles Sports Medicine Specialist
Dr. Chris Miles, Sports Medicine Specialist with the Methodist Medical Group, joined the PROeX Sports Medicine Team at Hopedale Medical Complex in August 2009. Dr. Miles complements a team of board certified physicians including an orthopedic surgeon, a neurologist, and a pain specialist who see patients at Hopedale’s Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Department. Dr. Miles’ regularly sees patients at the Wellness Center. Appointments can be made by calling 309-449-4501.
Dr. Miles is a native of Metamora. He graduated with Honors in 2005 from the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria, IL. and completed his residency at the U of I School of Medicine in Peoria and his fellowship at Wake Forest University Medical School. He holds licenses and certifications with the American Board of Family Medicine, CAQ Primary Care Sports Medicine and the State of Illinois Physician and Surgeons. He is member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, American Medical Association, American Academy of Family Physicians, American College of Sports Medicine, Peoria Medical Society and is an USA Boxing Certified Physician.

Sports Medicine Services
Diagnostic Testing
Complete and thorough diagnostic testing services are conveniently located next to the Wellness Center on the Hopedale Medical Complex. They include x-ray, MRI and CT scan.
Free Injury Evaluation
Our certified athletic trainers and physical therapists do the initial evaluation of your injury. If necessary, you will be referred to an experienced orthopedic surgeon or pain specialist. The initial evaluation is free of charge. Athletes do not have to be Hopedale Medical Complex patients.

Outreach School Partnerships
Hopedale Sports Medicine currently provides event coverage for Olympia, Hartem, Delavan, Tremont and Dee-Mack High Schools. If your school has interest in event coverage, please call 309-449-4501.
HMC Sports Rehabilitation Facility and Wellness Center offers:
- Three therapy pools.
- An indoor gym.

- Nautilus strength training equipment.
- Cardiovascular equipment.
- A nutrition/diet specialist.
- A modern outpatient physical therapy department.
- An expert staff of physical therapists, occupational therapists, certified athletic trainers, and physical therapy assistants with over 80 years of combined work experience.
